Patrice + Rene

I have done MANY sessions at the Japanese Tea Gardens, so when Patrice and Rene said they wanted to go there for their portraits, I wanted to find a way to stay creative and keep away from the “same old stuff” I’ve done there.  Luckily, the weather was really working with us and gave us some great even lighting and cloud cover, which really allowed me to step back and use my zoom lens.  I ususally only pull it out during ceremonies (it’s huge and pretty heavy, and you need A LOT of space), but I always love the shots I get with it.  Using this lens made me think differently and get more creative.  Doing the session on a weekday also helped–there were not a lot of people around to get in the way.  I love the shots we got for their session, and I think I’ll try to use this lens more.  Patrice and Rene were great to work with, and I hope they didn’t mind me experimenting a bit with them:)  Patrice was pretty shy and nervous at first (Rene’s more of a goofball, so he was fine!), but she slowly relaxed and I was able to catch some great moments between the two of them when she least expected it.  Here are some of my favorites:
